Since 2016, “LETS Feed Our People: Nigeria” has provided food aid to over 1,300 individuals in the Bariga community and surrounding areas of Lagos, Nigeria. The Bariga community is one of many in Nigeria ravaged by food insecurity, high unemployment rates, unsustainable healthcare infrastructures, and alarming poverty rates. Oftentimes youth as young as 12 are even expected to work and provide for their families.

Food insecurity in Nigeria has led to a staggering statistic of 32% of all children under the age of 5 suffering from severe acute malnutrition (SAM), the second-highest percentage in the world. The global pandemic has further added to the preexisting hunger crisis as food inflation has reached a 15-year all-time high in March of 2021. 

We travel to Lagos, Nigeria annually in December, with the assistance of our on ground team, for the recurrence of “LETS Feed Our People: Nigeria”. With this initiative, we aim to target individuals in Bariga and surrounding communities alike to strengthen hunger security and provide long-term solutions to food accessibility.
